I love my kids. Just not all the time – when they’re sleeping, mainly.

I am (of course!) joking. Rain or shine, snot and grime I love them for every ounce of their little tiny beings – okay, except when there’s a terrible-toddler tantrum in full throttle (but that’s sort of forgivable, isn’t it?).

My husband is a good man. I’d like him much more, though, if he bought me really expensive jewellery (here, I’m serious).

All jokes (and seditious non-jokes) aside, I’m one lucky lady. I have two gorgeous gals under the age of four. My man is so much more than a fab dad: he’s my rock, my diamond in the rough – which (even I will admit) is priceless and worth a whole lot more than a shimmering stone (no matter how it sparkles).

Great husband – check. Cute kids – check. Two dogs (who are sometimes great and mostly cute, but never clean) – check. House in the ’burbs – check. Domestic bliss… uh… no way!

Which is what this blog is all about: the ups and downs, sighs and frowns of life as a (fairly normal) thirty-something mother. Join me as I muddle my way through pre-dawn wakeup calls, purees, potties, mucky paws and parental fall outs.

It promises to be a colourful (crazy, chaotic!) journey and I’ll try to keep you posted every (sleep-deprived) step of the way. From books to beds, useful parenting tips (and tricks) to newsworthy kids’ clobber and fab furry finds, must-have baby buys, family-friendly holidays and the odd bargain or two; you’ll find them all here.

So, what are you waiting for? Jump on and enjoy the ride.

Thirty-something mother Venessa Dace has a background in magazines (and red wine drinking). She gave up her day job and began freelancing just before the birth of her first tot.

Currently her job descriptions include writer, editor, mother, wife, driver, listener, shouter, dog-poop-picker-upper and worrier-in-chief.

She lives in Cape Town with her husband (who loves fishing), her two girls: Jozi, three and Franki, almost two (who love each other now, thank God!) and her two dogs (who love making a mess).

This is her first blog.
