One Bedroom, Two Kids

My two girls are polar opposites – not in looks, but in personality.

The eldest is shy, quiet around people she doesn’t know (but extremely vociferous at home!), mysterious and a born nurturer.

My youngest, on the other hand, is loud (especially around people she doesn’t know), determined (to the point of fist-flying despair) and very courageous (jumping off high-flying swings is her speciality!).

With Little Miss Brave almost two we’ve been toying with the idea of moving her out of her cot and into a bed in the same room as her sister.

Problem

But here’s the thing, right.

A) The room is not very big and could seem crowded with an extra bed in it. B) The two girls are soooo different – how does one possibly settle on decor ideas that suit both personalities?

Solution

I discovered this very cool idea via Bambino Goodies. The fact that the floorboards are painted in four different shades of blue immediately give the room a striking, almost spacious symmetrical feeling, even though the beds are completely different. I love how the bedside units echo the stripes and create a sense of unity, while the beds suggest a distinct feeling of different personalities.

Also, I’m the hugest fan of wrought iron beds while my husband, sadly, is not. With this idea there’s one less thing to argue about: we can both have our way. Hoorah!
