Flowery Friday Fun

I do love it when simple things make kids giggle. Like this idea I discovered on Jozi Kids. It was written by Nikki Bush – author, game designer, toy judge and creator of The Bright Ideas Outfit.

It’s such a straightforward little project, but it’ll become a animated talking point in your family – trust me!

It works on the premis that plants drink water through their stems and disperse it to their petals.

Slurping up colour

You will need:
  • A handful of white blooms – roses or carnations work well
  • Two glasses
  • Water
  • Blue and red food colouring
What do do:
  1. Half fill each glass with water.
  2. Put roughly half the bottle of food colouring in each glass – making the water in one red, blue in the other.
  3. Place a flower in each glass and wait to see what happens. Within a couple of hours the flower should have a blue or red hue – the edges of the petals should start changing colour, too.

For ideas of games to play with your kids during the holidays visit Nikki Bush’s Top 20 recommendations. Also check out her Making Fun Out of Nothing suggestions.

Have a fun-filled weekend!
