I’m so super chuffed. I’ve discovered another dog bed alternative to the flea-ridden pillow puff so many folks (including ourselves) use for their pooches.
This one is called a Hound Sleeper. What is it? An innovative, easy-to-clean, flea-free bed that ‘keeps your hound off the ground.’

Let me explain.
We all try our darndest to make our dogs comfy, right? We feather their beds with continental pillows, wooly blankets, cushy covers… Some even get to sleep on the couch (ahem, no prizes for guessing whose). We think we’re doing them a favour, but at it turns out, the opposite is true.
- First up, wooly blankets and layered bedding are a wunderba breeding ground for pesky little critters like fleas and mites.
- Secondly, it’s not as comfortable as we think – how would you like your head to rest on a puffy border pillow while your body lies on little more than the fabric that makes the centre of the traditional dog bed ‘donut’?
- Finally, how often (be honest here) do you actually wash your dog’s bed? Mmm, yes, so they’re not the most hygenic, either.

The Hound Sleeper provides a healthy, flea-free environment by enabling your pooch to sleep elevated off the ground. Think camp bed – it’s the same kind of thing, but tailored to suit your pooch.
According to the manufacturers, “The Hound Sleeper is comfortable for the dog, supporting its weight evenly over the surface of the hammock. The strong frame and durable double layer fabric can comfortably carry the weight of dogs in excess of 70 kilograms.”
The best part? It’s super comfy and hygenic. Apparently the Hound Sleeper is v. easy to clean, “The bed can be scrubbed down with soap and water, hosed off and then left to dry.” Whoa! I’m liking that. I do love my pooches but not when they pong!
The beds are quick to assemble, flat packed for easy travel and can be couriered to anywhere in the country – nog a bonus.
