The Stress-Free Guide to Kids’ Birthday Parties

I’m a real sucker for kid’s birthday parties.

I was so excited for the day my eldest turned one; it meant I could throw her a birthday bash and make family favourites like racing car boudoir biscuits and orange jelly boats – just like my mum made me when I was a tot.party-plate

Completely naïve in the party department I went out on a limb and conjured up all kinds of grown-up snacks for the adults to eat, too (when really, a few bowls of chips would have sufficed).

I got so caught up in the preparations that come D-day I was exhausted and snappy and really not much fun to be around.

I can’t say I’ve learnt from my mistakes, because every year I fall into the same trap of wanting to make and do it all.

When I read this article: Kids Birthday Parties – Can They Be Stree-Free? on Zen Family Habits I had a little chuckle. I am that woman; the one who’s stressed out before the teeny tiny guests (and their folks) even arrive. It’s crazy.

The comments below the article offer some sound advice. If you’re planning a birthday party soonish, they’re well worth a read.
