Don’t you hate colic?

Eish colic! Where does one start?

Both my kids were colicky (and refluxy, but I’ll save those gory details for another post).

The fact that there’s no comprehensive cure for colic has been well documented, but I hated watching my babes cramp and cry.

Fabulous fennel

Fabulous fennel

It made me feel so useless.

Recently I heard about the antispasmodic properties of fennel and how it can help colicky babies; it peaked my interest.

Fennel Facts

  • Just a few millilitres of fennel tea given daily for about a week relieves tummy cramps in babies
  • If you’re breastfeeding you can either chew a couple of fennel seeds or sip on a cuppa fennel tea yourself
  • Fennel is a key ingredient of good old Gripe Water (where would the world be without that!)

Read all about fennel and its colic-relieving properties, as well as some interesting facts about other herbs such as sage, thyme and parsley here.

I came across a site dedicated to colic, which you may also find helpful. Check out the colic articles and the colic forum.

Back to fennel: apparently it’s a brilliant liver detoxifier. I’m off to stock up on some in time for the Silly Season. Byeeee…
